HOKL managed to meet with the famous Croatian pianist @maksimmrvicaofficial ! Maksim is performing in Malaysia tonight on 14th February and these are some of his answers to our questions:

1- What has been your biggest struggle so far, and how did you overcome it?

During the COVID period, all live performances were shut down and they drastically affected me. It took a lot of time for us (performers) to get back to (the) stage again – and get used to performing live, going to the studio and preparing mentally again to perform to the public.

Thankfully, during the COVID period, I spent some time on my own to compose, rearrange and practice my music. (Check out Maksim’s Spotify playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4wlbNIzC1gD2nQ8vFpIWyU?si=dDa58VaHTlm1Zq6RDTj5NA

2 – What made you interested in piano, and what has been your most moving moment thus far?

Since I was a little child, I have always enjoyed playing the piano. And after winning several competitions and practicing my piano during the war, I can tell that’s something in my blood.

3 – What are you thinking about while you play?

I listen to the music that I produce on stage, in order to try to control and create the best performance. To be honest, sometimes I get so carried away with the music on stage that I forget that I am even on stage!

4 – Your forearms have pretty cool tattoo designs! And it’s definitely visible when you are playing the piano. What do tattoos mean to you?

I have a lot of tattoos on my body. I have always liked tattoos. Mostly they are just of a decorative nature. Polynesian symbols mostly!

5 – What is your advice to future musicians, and to Malaysians who will be seeing you later tonight?

Enjoy your moment, enjoy the time, and enjoy the music!
