Hey there, I’m DJ Yang2, a Kuala Lumpur based Turntablist & Disc Jockey. My journey into music began with a love for rock genre that’s been with me since childhood. The dream to travel the world as a musician, performing on stages as member of a Band or as a DJ everywhere, has always been my ultimate goal. After high school, I decided to pursue my passion by studying music production at the International Music Of College (ICOM), graduating in 2011.
Initially, I aimed to carve out a career in Malaysia’s music industry. However, the harsh reality of limited job opportunities and a lack of networking led me to pivot into the local TV broadcast field. Over more than the a decade, 12 years to be exact. I specialized in doing localization audio, working on classic iconic projects like Crayon Shin-chan, Doraemon, Detective Conan, Pokémon, Naruto and many more as a Dubbing Engineer. I had the privilege of collaborating with numerous local artists, celebrities, and singers, but despite the much fun and success, I began to feel stagnant. The salary standards also remained flat in this market, hence I yearning for new challenges.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, I saw it as an opportunity for change. I made the bold decision to leave my role as a team lead engineer at a production studio and ventured into live reinforcement and front-of-house engineering. In between, I also explored difference job fields like property management, healthcare services, and even worked as an e-hailing driver to broaden my horizons.
Throughout these transitions, music remained my constant passion. I continued to perform in gigs with various rock bands and as solo DJ during the my free time. Even being invited to perform on stage for Rock The World Festival. It was during this time around 2021, that fate brought me together with Hayate Konno, who have been cosplaying for over ten years, who is not only a talented Coser but also an incredible singer.
Ever since post-lockdown, Hayate and I have actively performed as a dynamic singer-DJ duo at various Anime, Comics and Games (ACG) events across Malaysia, including prominent gatherings like Animagaki and Comic Fiesta. We’ve also been invited to overseas ACG events, establishing ourselves as recognized figures in the scene. Our journey together has been exhilarating, and we’re eagerly looking forward to continuing this adventure indefinitely.
Currently, I still balanced my passion for music with a full-time role as an Audio Podcast Operator and Sound Designer for a company. However, my ultimate aspiration is to transition fully into a career as a music artist. With determination and perseverance, I’m working towards making that dream a reality.
