Sandra Lim, Miss Universe Malaysia 2024, has officially revealed her breathtaking national costume, ‘Princess Walinong Sari,’ inspired by the legendary warrior princess from Pahang folklore. At a recent press conference held at MYEG Tower Auditorium in Petaling Jaya, Sandra presented the elaborate costume that will represent Malaysia at the upcoming 73rd MISS UNIVERSE® competition in Mexico City on 16 November 2024 (17 November Malaysian time).
Created by acclaimed Malaysian designer Ezuwan Ismail, this impressive costume celebrates Malaysian heritage, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern design. Drawing from the story of Princess Walinong Sari, known for her beauty and martial arts skills, the costume symbolizes courage, grace, and empowerment.
The costume, weighing 30 kg and standing at 1.77 meters, incorporates authentic handwoven songket fabric and delicate sulam tebuk embroidery. Accessories include a crown-like warrior headgear and a sword, each reflecting the strength and dignity of Malaysian women. The costume’s intricate details bring to life Princess Walinong Sari’s warrior spirit, with a special on-stage reveal symbolizing Sandra’s transformation from princess to warrior.
Sandra’s choice to embody Princess Walinong Sari underscores her commitment to representing the strength, resilience, and heritage of Malaysian women. “Through this costume, I want to show that a woman can be both fierce and graceful,” she shared. “I’m proud to represent the strength of Malaysian women and showcase our diverse cultural heritage to the world.”
In addition to the national costume, Sandra will wear a sophisticated evening gown, also designed by Ezuwan Ismail, which reflects her elegance and commitment to Malaysia. Both pieces are part of Sandra’s journey to celebrate and inspire women while honoring Malaysian culture.
